Particle Detectors. The purpose of a particle detector is to accurately measure the outcome of collisions created by a particle accelerator. The detectors are multipurpose. In other words, the detector is divided into many subdetectors, each designed to measure a different aspect of the collision event.

Particle Detectors – Principles and Techniques Interaction of charged particles Scattering An incoming particle with charge z interacts elastically with a target of nuclear charge Z. As charged particles pass through these strips, they cause small ionization currents that can be detected and measured. Research particle detectors. Detectors designed for modern accelerators are huge, both in size and in cost.
